THE ALANIZ 'STACHE

When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, “Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness… Hosea 1:2a (NIV)

Grandpa’s an Alaniz and Grandma’s a Vargas.  Apparently the Alaniz’s genes are real strong because you can tell an Alaniz by one strong characteristic-the Alaniz shnoz.  The Vargas nose is nice and small.  Not the Alaniz’s.  And I get stuck with the Alaniz nose not the Vargas.  What’s that about?

The other characteristic for Alaniz men is the ability to grow these amazing ‘staches (mustache).  Tom Selleck has nothing over the healthy growth of manly facial hair the Alaniz men proudly sport.  But of course I get the nose but not the ‘stache.

I can only imagine how hard it is for new parents who fear they may pass to their kids something they have that’s bad:  a history of diabetes, acne, an embarrassing last name, bad penmanship, throwing like a girl, or whoredom.  Yes I said whoredom.  The King James Version strikes again with this colorful description:  “Go, take into thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms.” Apparently the children shared the disgrace of their mother, even though they were born in a lawful marriage.  The sins of parents, at times descend in a mysterious way on their children.  Sin is contagious and unless its ugliness is cut off by grace it can be hereditary.

Questions to consider:
Why is sin contagious to our children?
What must you do to break the cycle of sin?
What can you teach your kids to help them be free?
