Reliance: 2013 Day 1

Luke 4:1-14 (NIV)

My insight...

Verse 1:  The desert is a place of extremes, hot days cold nights.  We like it comfortable...just right. But there's nothing comfortable about fasting.  And there's nothing comfortable about the Christian life.

Verse 2:  satan always shows up during a time of fasting.  He knows great things happen when Gods people align themselves through fasting, prayer, and Bible reading.  So He'll do anything he can to stop it.

Verse 3-4:  The greatest temptation during fasting is FOOD!  But Jesus reminds us what's at the heart of fasting:  my human nature isn't maintained by food first but by Gods divine power.

Verse 5-8:  Satan seems to like this lie.  He still uses it today, "Come with me and I'll give you the world.  If you go with God and 'worship' Him, you'll miss out."

Verse: 9-12:  The enemy knows the Word of God also and twits it for his purposes.  That's why we need know the truth and the nature of God so we're not deceived.

Verse 13:  Fasting severs the power of the enemy from our life.  He leaves!

Verse 14:  we can return after fasting in the power of the Spirit.  That will make a commotion!
