Nothing funnier than a kid with money…
When a kid comes into some money, he
transforms into this different person. Smug,
like Mr. Monopoly, boastful like a baller in one of those rap videos. They’ve excavated pocket change from the coach
cushions and now they think their Scrooge McDuck, swimming in the coin. They let everyone know: “I got monies!” It’s the opener of every conversation: “You know, I have my own money?”
And it's funny how they never understand
the value of what they actually have.
Like the time your kid says: “I want ice cream.” And you’re like: “How you
paying for it?” And their like: “I got money.
You drive the car. I’m buying!” You order and they order and it rings up
as $5. Your boy reaches into his pocket
and pulls out this plastic, Spider-Man wallet that has a pouch with a button for
change and pulls out 1 nickel, 3 pennies, 1 Canadian coin, 1 peso, and a
button. He’s thinking: “Just take what
you need.” Your thinking: “What am I supposed
to do with this?” What do you do? Like any good parent you say thanks for the
money and cover the difference.
His feeble attempt of covering the cost
didn’t even scratch the surface. But
you, you’re wallet of resources could more than meet the need they thought
their pesos and buttons could handle.
Some of us need to realize that we’re
not as in charge, not as on top of things as we think we are. There have been plenty of times you came up
short and God bailed you out that you don’t even know about. You brought your “pesos and buttons” of
solutions and ingenuity convinced it was more than enough. And once again, God brought out the greatness
of his resources to bail you out. You
have no idea of the battles that where won, the way that was made where there was
no way all before you even showed up.
You walked through with ease unaware that God’s favor had passed before
you.
The psalmist put it this way: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he
will make your paths straight. Proverbs
3:5-6
“…he will make your
paths straight,” in Hebrew is: v'hu y'yashsher
or'khotheyka. It means:
God himself shall make the path straight, or level, removing all
obstacles out of the way. It’s exactly
what He does. I encourage you to pause
and thank God for all the times He’s bailed you out that you’re not even aware
of.
